William George Aston was a British diplomat, scholar-expert and author

Other publications were A History and two Japanese grammars. 1912 Cambridge University Library acquired 10000 rare Japanese volumes from the collections of Aston. Okamoto Kido recalls on adaption and the development in chapter eleven. The time babysitting occasionally Mr. Aston's children had considerable understanding of Japanese literature. However Mr. Aston had brought the complete works of Shakespeare into the Legation, knowing the scripts of the various plays. The Japanese books mentioned already Aston's substantial collection.

The only known likeness of Aston is in London in the National Portrait Gallery.
