The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Chongqing is a Latin Metropolitan archdiocese in southwestern PR China, see archiepiscopal in provincial-level city of Chongqing in the Cathedral of St. Joseph. The archdiocese has been vacant since 2003 without an Apostolic administrator. The Right Rev. Mgr Desflèches was elected first Apostolic vicar. Christians and Missionaries were subject to imperial persecutions. The 1860 mission was divided into two Apostolic vicariates. The missionaries obtained from a piece of ground from Chinese officials.
The 1891 Right Rev. Mgr Chouvellon succeeded Bishop Coupat. Eugène-Paul Coupat succeeding as former Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of Eastern Szechwan 四川東境.
