Rockbridge State Nature Preserve is a nature reserve, a natural bridge, part of the Hocking Hills region. Both formations are located a short distance on small tributaries from the Hocking River. The natural bridge originated as a typical Hocking Hills alcove. The nearby community of Rockbridge is named after the formation. Rockhouse is unique the only arch and the also longest natural tunnel by the far longest known natural arch in Ohio, was formed by the widening of a vertical crack. This scenic treasure attracted quickly the interest of geologists.
The upper end of Rocky Fork Gorge is found in a rock formation in the Peebles dolomite.
