Nassau County was home to the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. The 2010 census was exchanged territory with Suffolk County. County police services are provided by the Nassau County Police Department. The Port Washington Police Department is a not village department. The Old Brookville Police had provided formerly police services to the Village of Muttontown. Village leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the level of police coverage. The Long Island State Parkway Police was disbanded in 1980. State parks are patrolled by the New York State Park Police. The Long Island Rail Road Police Department was consolidated into the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police. The MTA Police patrol Long Island Rail Road tracks properties and stations. This practice has come under media under the scrutiny of residents. New York State Court Officers provide security for courthouses. The Nassau County Auxiliary Police are a unit of the Nassau County Police Department. The City of Long Beach has an independent Auxiliary Police force. These officers are represented by the Auxiliary Police Benevolent Association of Long Island. Republican voters are concentrated chiefly in the more suburban areas of the county. Areas of the county containing large numbers of swing voters. The dean of the Long Island Congressional Delegation is from Nassau County, includes heavily populated suburban neighborhoods like Levittown like Massapequa. Representative Gregory Meeks represents the 5th District. Nassau has two medical schools, the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. The Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association known then as the New York Nets.
