James Douglas was the eldest son of William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry. Government was reinstated in 1705, was created Duke of Dover, Marquess of Beverley was Secretary of State from 1709 for Scotland. Queensberry House is today part of the Scottish Parliament Building.
