Francis Willughby was ichthyologist and an English ornithologist, a student, colleague and friend. Ray saw Willughby's Ornithologia libri tres after Willughby's sudden death through the press. Willughby studied at Trinity College and Sutton Coldfield at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School, died during the preparation of this work from pleurisy, was the first such work in the English language. Cambridge Francis Willughby was taught by the naturalist John Ray. The Willughby family seat is owned now by the City of Nottingham.
