Eleazer A. Paine was an American soldier, lawyer and author

Tennessee was occupied from 1862 by Union troops, was a captain in the Union Army. Executions were commonplace without benefit of a trial. Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman reassigned a regiment and Paine commanded later the military District of Illinois. Several modern historians have questioned as the investigators. Guerillas and Confederate cavalry operated with impunity. 1863 General Paine tightened military control over the Gallatin area, criss-crossed Summer County was known around Gallatin, had also a fondness for villagers furniture.
